How Hollywood drives people to piracy
Big media companies have been pushing SOPA and PIPA as a way to limit piracy, by removing consumers’ ability to find pirated content. But it’s not Google’s fault people are seeking out films online and watching pirated streams or downloads — it’s the studios’ fault for not making it easier for consumers to find and pay for that content instead.. -

Boring Wisconsin recall webcam draws big audience
You know you live in a state consumed by politics when a webcam showing bureaucrats silently shuffling around a nondescript room feeding papers into a scanner attracts tens of thousands of viewers. Such is the case in Wisconsin. Live sex shows, it ain't. It isn't even as interesting as all those webcams that have drawn large followings in recent years to watch pandas give birth or baby eagles take flight. More » -
SOPA Activism Moves Republicans More Than Democrats
You have an entire wired generation focused on this issue like a laser, fighting like hell to protect their online freedoms, and it’s FUCKING REPUBLICANS who are playing the heroes by dropping support? Those goddam Democrats would rather keep collecting their Hollywood checks, than heed the will of millions of Americans who have lent their online voice in an unprecedented manner. Are they really this stupid? Can they really be this idiotic? Are they really going to cede this issue to Republicans, hand them this massive public victory, then get left with nothing but public scorn when SOPA and PIPA go down in flames?. . -
NFL Conference Championship Picks
It's a little hard to make these picks since I thought the Packers would still be an option. Oh well, I guess it's time to think about free agency, the draft and Super Bowl parties where the game is the least important thing about them. Baltimore at New England Does anyone outside of Baltimore really want the Ravens to win this game? Even people who hate the Patriots know that the Patriots in the Super Bowl makes it an interesting game. The Ravens in the Super Bowl makes it a sideshow for the media, the halftime show and Aunt Jenny's fabulous jalapeno dip. The Ravens strategy seems to be to keep Tom Brady off of the field by running the ball. I've never understood how this strategy is really supposed to work against quick strike offenses. I don't think it can, so I'm picking New England, for America. New York at San Francisco Now here's the game. San Francisco showed some surprising panache against the Saints and New York showed some typical toughness against the Packers. Remind me again why it seems like people call for Tom Coughlin's job every year? Anyway, I don't know what to think about the Giants. Both the Falcons and the Packers played utterly crappy against them. Maybe the Giants are just lucky. Then again, I do think Eli Manning is a playoff god. The 49ers really impressed me last weekend. They got into a shootout against Drew Brees and won. That's amazing. Maybe this is their magical year. I believe in magic, so I'll go with San Francisco.More »
